Hear from our current students about their experience with MH201

“Hi, my name is Hannah, and I am a 4th year Computer Science (MH602) student. What I love most about this course is how many technical and soft skills I gained. I'm able to apply them to real-world scenarios and had the opportunity to work in the tech industry. I have learned about different technologies and programming languages that came in handy for projects and work environments.

I chose Maynooth University based on the course structure, I like how we're introduced to web development and databases in the second year because I was scared that starting these subjects in the first year might have been overwhelming. I had no coding experience prior, but I found the first year to be a really good introduction to the basics of programming and foundations of computer science.”

Hannah Bagtasos, 4th Year Student, CSA BSc Computer Science and Software Engineering (through Science)

“Hi, my name is Curtis King and I am in my fourth and final year of CSSE in Maynooth. Some of the things I like about the course are the support from great demonstrators in labs and tutors in the CSC, the friends I've made throughout the course, and this year in particular, I'm really enjoying having access to the Final year lab.

The reason I chose to do CSSE was due to the industry placement in the third year and the fact that after having a strong foundation in Computer Science, I could specialise in other areas such as robotics.”

Our Graduate Stories

My time at Maynooth gave me not just the technical foundation I needed, but also a strong support network that’s stayed with me. The friendships I made were a real highlight—and they continue to shape my life today. Studying Computer Science & Software Engineering prepared me for my career, and I’m now working as a Software Engineer in Toronto in the financial services sector.”

Keryn Duggan, BSc Computer Science & Software Engineering, 2017 Graduate

"Maynooth University gave me the perfect balance of academic knowledge and hands-on experience. The supportive environment and access to real-world projects helped me grow both professionally and personally. My time here laid the foundation for a rewarding career in tech, and I’m proud to be part of such a forward-thinking, inclusive community."

Aaron Joseph Binu, Product Manager, Ryanair. BSc Computer Science and Software Engineering, 2023 Graduate

"If you're considering doing this degree, l'd really recommend it. One of my favourite things about this degree was how well-rounded it is. You'll start by learning about key concepts in computer science and building strong programming skills, before going on to explore exciting areas like Al, VR and robotics. Another thing that I really enjoyed about this course was the hands on experience that I got. You’ll have the opportunity to work on loads of different types of projects.

One of my favourite projects was in Mobile Application Development, where we worked in a team setting to combine user experience design and React to build an application from scratch. These types of collaborations are really what's going to prepare you for industry, and I still use a lot of those skills in my job today. If you're considering this course, l'd really recommend it. It set me up for the future and l've learned so much.”
